Shelbi "Shel10" Toone (formerly Shelbi Harris-Roseboro) is an artist, curator, and community organizer whose work bridges creativity, history, and social change. A lifelong artist and Columbus native, she has dedicated her career to using art as a tool for cultural preservation, empowerment, and collective storytelling. Her practice spans painting, murals, graphic design, and mixed media, all deeply rooted in themes of love, peace, and community. Over the past decade, Shelbi has built a legacy of fostering inclusive artistic spaces, curating exhibitions, and leading initiatives that uplift the voices of marginalized communities.
As Ohio History Connection's Project Lead for Poindexter Village Museum, Central Ohio’s first African American museum, Shelbi plays a pivotal role in preserving and showcasing Columbus’ Black history, public housing narratives, and the impact of redlining. She also spearheads initiatives like the annual Poindexter Village Drum Circle and citywide youth art challenges, ensuring the stories of the Near East Side are honored and shared. Beyond her curatorial work, Shelbi is the visionary behind Aminah Is My Art Teacher (AIMAT), a community-driven program that distributes books and art supplies while offering workshops to make creativity accessible to youth and families. She also founded and now chairs All People Arts, fostering artistic engagement and expression. Additionally, she is a driving force behind the Walt Neil Mural League, an initiative dedicated to promoting murals and supporting artists across communities.
Through every brushstroke and project, Shelbi Toone transforms spaces into living narratives, connecting past, present, and future through the power of art. Whether through large-scale murals or intimate workshops, her work continues to inspire, educate, and unify communities reinforcing the belief that art is a catalyst for change. She resides on the near east side with her husband and son.
